Design Story

The eye lands first on the straw hat with its red band, framed by a rope ring and four compass points set into a sun-bleached cream field. Around that medallion the scene loosens into vignettes: a smiling sun, a skull island, a pirate ship under sail, a treasure chest, a compass rose, palm trees, a picnic basket, a watermelon slice on gingham. Flame shapes, shells, ship wheels and anchors scatter through the negative space in orange and slate blue. A deep blue border with knotwork and rope corners closes the field, giving the whole surface a bordered, centred hierarchy rather than a flat repeat.

Room & Styling

As a rug, the layout reads in stages. From standing height, the hat medallion anchors the room and the blue border defines the footprint against the floor. Step closer and the outer vignettes reward attention, so furniture edges can cover corners without collapsing the composition. Cream negative space keeps the motif scale legible instead of crowded.
