Design Story

The centre is a spired cathedral-castle framed by a pointed Gothic arch, its gatehouse and stone stair drawing the eye straight down the middle of the rug. Supporting motifs are arranged with strict symmetry — two ravens in medallions at the top, two seated gargoyles flanking the lower field, crowned lion shields, fleur-de-lis panels, crossed swords and a crowned quartered crest at the base. The border is a dense gold scrollwork frame contained by deep oxblood and near-black panels. The palette stays restrained: charcoal, bone grey, burgundy, antique gold. At distance you read the silhouette of the spires; mid-range, the mirrored beasts and shields; up close, fine engraved-style linework and stippled shading that give the surface a printed tapestry texture.

Room & Styling

As a floor piece it behaves like a framed medallion — the border does the containing work, so the rug reads as a complete object rather than a cropped image. Keep the central arch clear of furniture and let low seating sit outside the gold frame. Against pale wood or plain flooring, the dark field acts as an anchor and pulls the room's palette toward moody, tonal styling.
