The eye lands on the castle first: twin towers rising from a stone gatehouse, framed by clouds painted in the muted tones of an old tapestry. Everything around it exists to hold that centre in place.

Design Story

This is a centred medallion composition dressed in heraldry. Crimson banners carrying gold lions hang from each tower; a crowned crest floats above the gate, and small pennants catch an imagined wind. The border does real work here, running fleur-de-lis shields, rampant lions, visored helms and crossed swords through the corners, all bound by golden scrollwork and a floral outer band in deep wine red. The palette is deliberate and narrow: aged gold, oxblood, slate and parchment. At a distance you read castle and crown. Closer in, the fine linework, the flaked gilt-look edges and the quartered shields reveal a design built layer by layer rather than all at once.

Room & Styling

As a floor composition the layout is squarely symmetrical, which gives it an easy sense of order. The central castle is scaled to stay visible under a low table, while the wide decorative border defines a clean edge against the surrounding floor.
