Design Story

The eye lands first on the castle at the centre — spires, crenellated walls, red-tiled turrets and a barred gate holding the middle of the square. Around it, the composition organises itself with almost ceremonial discipline: a crown floating above the highest tower, rampant lions on deep crimson shields in the upper corners, fleur-de-lis crests flanked by crossed swords and visored helms on either side. A crowned lion emblem anchors the lower edge, framed by scrolling gold foliage. The border does real work here, a double frame of ornament and faded red that closes the scene like the edge of an old tapestry. The palette is disciplined: aged gold, oxblood red, charcoal. Distressed, weathered-looking texture across the surface gives it the quiet of something long kept rather than newly made.
